Shah Rukh Khan is a man of golden words. Rightly sitting on the throne of Bollywood, the actor has been a favourite of many. Not only women but also men are impressed by the aura of Shah Rukh. And with the kind of experience Badshah Khan has gained after spending over 25 years in the film industry, his words automatically turn into pearls of wisdom. Be it his interviews, talks shows or award ceremonies, the actor has a perfect comeback to every googly thrown at him. You just can’t beat him when he is at his wittiest best. Leave alone his interviews or talk shows, the live speeches of the Raees actor has made him even more popular across the globe. Remember his speech at University of Edinburgh, UK, or his first-ever TED Talk in Vancouver? Those were the times which proved that Shah Rukh has his way with words.
Today on his 52nd birthday, we try to list down the times when he came out as the legend of wit and also proved that there is more to him than being the King of Romance.
1. When Shah Rukh Khan’s speech at the University of Edinburgh, UK, had him intercepting it with references from the movies he has done like Deewana, Dil Se, Kal Ho Na Ho and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Life Lesson from his debut movie Deewana: I’m not sure why the movie was called Deewana (which in Hindi means madness of a particularly nice/romantic kind) but I have a feeling it had something to do with the guy who came up with the plot!! So, here’s my first life lesson, inspired by the movie title Deewana: Madness (of the particularly nice/romantic kind) is an absolute prerequisite to a happy and successful life. Don’t ever treat your little insanities as if they are aberrations that ought to be hidden from the rest of the world. Acknowledge them and use them to define your own way of living the only life you have. All the most beautiful people in the world, the most creative, the ones who led revolutions, who discovered and invented things, did so because they embraced their own idiosyncrasies. There’s no such thing as ‘normal’. That’s just another word for lifeless.

2. Shah Rukh Khan’s take on social media when he made a debut at TED Talks
Everything I said took a new meaning, everything I did- good, bad, ugly was there for the world to comment upon and judge. Everything that I didn’t say or do was met with the same fate. Reality became virtual and virtual became real. I started to feel that I couldn’t be who I wanted to be or say what I actually thought. And humanity at this time completely identified with me. Both of us were going through mid-life crisis. Humanity, like me, was becoming an over-exposed prima donna.
3. When Shah Rukh Khan thought award shows are nothing less than ‘satsangs’
“I have a feeling that by the end of my career, I will be in a padded room in one way or another. This house (Mannat) is too small, so I am trying to earn more money and get a room like that. But genuinely, one day I want to scream like haan haan maine ye kiya hai, haan maine yeh bola tha and yeh bhi bol raha hoon. I used to take out my aggression in award shows but now we can’t do that. Abhi toh discourse hai humara. Genuinely, the one that we did together was like a satsang. These days nobody has done bad work in award shows. Everyone is good.”
4. Shah Rukh Khan on receiving collection figures of his films
“Do not send me collection reports of my films because I make them. I am in this business. I produce and distribute the film. I know the figures, fools.”
5. Shah Rukh Khan on the injustice meted out to gaalis (abuses)
“Please don’t abuse me on Twitter with swears in capitals. Mera Dilli ka jaanwar jaag jata hai. Maza nahi hai isme. Come and abuse me in real. I feel so bad for gaalis, they have reduced gaalis to nothing. I feel bad for them. I want to start an association to save gaalis. And on top of it, some of the spellings of gaalis takes the feel away. ‘U’ is easy but ‘OO’ makes it very different. You know.”
6. Shah Rukh Khan’s alternate career option
“Just in case filmmaking fails, I will open a restaurant by the same name. Red Chillies restaurant toh chalega hi. (A restaurant with the name ‘Red Chillies’ will definitely work).”
