Chandigarh, September 9

Humour and satire — laced with words of wisdom and didacticism — marked the Hasya Kavi Sammelan organised by the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi at the Tagore Theatre here today.
The event was held as a part of the ongoing 9th Chandigarh Art and Heritage Festival.
Akademi chairperson Gulzar Sandhu welcomed chief guest Anurag Aggarwal, Secretary, Home and Culture (UT). Poets casted a spell weaving satire and humour in their verses which were focused on social evils, corruption, religious bigotry and contemporary issues ailing the society in urban and rural areas.
Eminent poets who regaled the audience included Mahinder Sharma,Deepak Pawar, Jagsir Jidha,Mahender Ajnabi, TN Raz, Yogindere Moudgil, Jagjit Sufi, Satyadev Sharma, Jainder Kardam , Arun Jemini and Madhav Kaushik. 
Meanwhile, audience were enthralled by Gatka performances by members of the Universal Art Society, Haryanvi fold dance khodia and Rajasthani dance ghoomar by the Leela Saini troupe and bhangra by Virsat-e-Punjab dancers. The highlight of the evening remained folk dances by artistes from Dadra and Nagar Haveli. 

Plays staged

Artistes of the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi staged three short plays at Dhanas village, Dadumajra and Maloya as a part of the Art and Heritage festival.
